by

When looking for positive solutions of semipositone elliptic equations, a key difficulty is the elusiveness of positive subsolutions. One way to find such subsolutions is to solve a related problem with a piecewise constant nonlinearity; the talk will focus on existence and nonexistence results for these model equations, as well as their applications.
