We present two size-structured population models which describe the dynamics of n ecotypes competing for common resources. We prove that if reproduction is closed then competitive exclusion between the n ecotypes will occur. We also show that if reproduction is open then coexistence between these ecotypes is possible. Furthermore, we consider a nonlinear hierarchical age-structured population model with time dependent individual vital rates. We then provide conditions on the model parameters which result in extinction or persistence of the population.
