Twisted Alexander polynomials were introduced by X.S. Lin in 1990. They have been studied subsequently by many researchers both from algebraic and topological points of view. We will begin with an expository introduction to the subject, and then present our own dynamical perspective. A twisted version of Fox colorings arises naturally.
