In 1969 Furi and Vignoli introduced the notion of so-called F-contractive mappings. Recall that a function f : X → X is said to be weakly F-contractive, if the condition F(f(x), f(y)) < F(x, y) holds for all different x, y in X, where X is a topological space and F a real lower semi-continuous function defined on the Cartesian product of X and X. In this talk we introduce so called F-expansive mappings and we present new fixed point theorems for F-contractive mappings as well as F-expansive mappings in topological spaces. All the results will be ilustrated by suitable examples. This talk is based on the common paper ON NEW FIXED POINT THEOREMS IN TOPOLOGICAL SPACES with Dariusz Bugajewski.
