Dynamics of a lottery competition model and its approximation by ODEs
by
Ryusuke Kon
Department of Biology, Kyushu University

This talk considers the ODE approximation of the lottery competition model proposed by Chesson and Warner (1981), which is a discrete-time model. The approximation helps to understand the global dynamics of the original discrete-time system. For example, the model can be approximated by a replicator equation for zero-sum games if the death rate is sufficiently small and the environment is constant. We also consider the case where the environment is periodic in time, and examine a condition for specie coexistence.
