Partitions and Near Coherence
by

Most of this talk is about polarized partition relations on omega, where the homogeneous sets are sought in specified ultrafilters. Characterizations of the ultrafilters for which such relations hold involve near coherence of ultrafilters. If time permits, I'll also describe a connection between near coherence and the union ultrafilters that arise from Hindman's partition theorem.
