Collins and Dykema have shown that the Connes embedding problem (of embedding an arbitrary finite factor in the ultropower of the hyperfinite one) can be linearized, and therefore reduced it to a sequence of eigenvalue problems. We will show how to solve the first of these problems. The solution involves a practical solution to generic Schubert intersection problems. This solution is new even in finite dimensions.
