A space X is called pseudo-Menger if every second countable continuous image of X is Menger. We characterize this property in terms of small cardinals, continuous pseudometrics, countable covers by co-zero sets, and Cp-spaces (X is pseudo-Menger iff Cp(X) does not contain a copy of the countable fan space Vw). In parallel, we consider the "pseudo"-versons of Hurewicz, Rothberger and other selection principles.
