Some years ago, Mary Ellen Rudin proved Nikiel's Conjecture that every monotonically normal compactum is the continuous image of a linearly ordered one. We outline a new proof for the case where the space under consideration is separable --- the proof is a blend of Rudin's together with techniques based on elementary submodels. This is joint work with my graduate student, Laura Dolph-Bosley.
