On a-numbers of cyclic covers of the projective line

The a-number is one of the isomorphism invariants of abelian varieties defined over a field of positive characteristic p that is associated with the kernel of multiplication by p. We present an upper bound on the a-number of jacobians of some cyclic covers of the projective line.
