Quasilinear operators and Morse functions

Let f be smooth functional on sphere. We consider the potential operator F=grad f in quasilinear form: F(y)=A(y)y, where A(y) is self-adjoined operator. We shall show that critical points y of finctional f coincide with eigenvectors: A(y)y=ky (k is eigenvalue). By K. Uhlenbeck manyfold we shall give the new geometric interpretation for Morse index.
