Combined generators are popular methods to improve the performance of the Linear Congruential Generators (LCGs) or Multiple Recursive Generators (MRGs). We discuss and compare various theoretical justifications and heuristic arguments for the combined generators. While there are strength and weakness in each of these arguments, we find that their conclusions are consistent with each other. We then consider and search a special class of MRGs which is based on the principle of the combined generators. Extensive empirical testing result on several large order MRGs will be presented..
