Cup products and Selmer groups of reducible representations

We will discuss work-in-progress on the application of cup products of p-units to the structure of Selmer groups of certain reducible representations. Such representations arise as residual representations attached to cusp forms satisfying modulo p congruences with Eisenstein series. This has applications to certain conjectures on the nontriviality of the cup product values and the relationship between these values and the p-adic L-values of the aforementioned cusp forms.
