A homology theory for basic sets

Smale spaces were introduced by David Ruelle. They are topological dynamical systems with canonical coordinates of contracting/expanding directions and they include the basic sets for Smale's Axiom A systems. We introduce a kind of homology theory for such systems which extends Krieger's dimension group invariant in the special case of shifts of finite type.
