It will be described how rich families of fractal homeomorphisms from the unit square to itself can be constructed by using bilinear transformations. (They are constructed using the chaos game algorithm, providing a link to some work of Stanislaw Ulam and Von Neumann. In some cases the smoothness of these transformations can be described precisely.) They have applications to design, biological modeling, and digital imaging.
