We survey and investigate several fundamental properties of these systems. We touch upon issues such as convergence to a limit and robustness with respect to initial conditions. We also show a new interesting connection to universal algebras. The talk is based on a foundational work of Rabinovich, Sinclair and Wigderson and on a recent joint work of mine with Gabor Kun.
