Serial Segmentation without a Posterior Growth Zone

New evidence suggests the segmented phylum Onychophora and some Arthropoda are growing uniformly, without a localised posterior growth zone during development. We present here a model for segmentation that results in a uniformly growing domain becoming segmented over time in a sequential, anterior to posterior manner. This work challenges the paradigm that a localised, posterior growth zone is necessary for serial segmentation.
