Description:
The Institute for Improvement in Quality and Productivity (IIQP) at the University of Waterloo is hosting a research workshop; its goal is to present and promote research dealing with Large Data Sets. Recent advances in computing and information technology have revolutionized the field of statistics and enable us to tackle complex problems in industry and technology such as pattern recognition, process control and system optimization.

The workshop will consist of invited talks in applied and statistical areas such as Data Visualization, Data Mining (analysis), Classification, Regression and Time Series. There will be ample time allotted for discussion and no parallel sessions are planned. A limited number of contributed poster sessions may also be arranged.

Attendance is limited to about 50 participants. Some financial assistance is planned for a limited number of full time graduate student attendees by paying for registration, lodging and meals. Applicants for such assistance should send a one page description of their current or planned research activities, co-signed by their supervisor, to Bovas Abraham at the IIQP as soon as possible.

Speakers: John MacGregor (McMaster University), Paul Nomikos (Dupont Canada), Don Sun (Lucent Technologies), Matt Schonlau (NISS/AT&T), Andreas Buja (AT&T), Diane Cook (Iowa State University), David Banks (National Institute of Standards and Technology), Stan Young (Glaxo Wellcome), Nick Cercone (University of Waterloo), Yoshua Bengio (University of Montreal)
