International Workshop on Nonlinear Waves in Solids ("NoW in Solids")

June 8-11, 2000

Hong Kong, China

Mathematics

Host: Liu Bie Ju Centre for Mathematical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong
Homepage: http://www.cityu.edu.hk/ma/conference/wnws.html

Organizers: H.-H. Dai, A. M. Samsonov

Description:
Nonlinear wave propagation as one of basic phenomena in solids is of both theoretical and practical importance. During the last two decades or so a wide range of problems in this area have been studied based on mathematical, physical and numerical approaches, and some remarkable results have been achieved. For example, it is now known that the phenomena of solitary waves are widely spread in solids. This workshop will discuss recent and prospective advances in nonlinear waves in solids. It will consist invited lectures and contributed talks on a wide range of topics which include:

Analytical methods in solving nonlinear wave problems in solids Waves in active or dissipative elastic media Waves in electroelastic and magnetoelastic media Nonlinear surface waves and nonlinear waves in elastic wave guides Numerical and experimental simulations for nonlinear waves in solids High performance computing in nonlinear wave simulation in solids

Speakers: P.L. Christiansen, H.-H. Dai, J. Engelbrecht, D. Haddow, G.W. Hunt, A. Jeffrey, A. Mayer, T. Kawahara, C.-S. Man, G. A. Maugin, D. Parker, A.M. Samsonov

Date received: January 20, 1999, revised February 21, 2005
