Description:
WHAT IS MISGNULL
Each year mathematicians, research scientists, engineers, research students and industry representatives meet to focus on 6 to 8 selected projects from Australian industry and business.
For all participants, the MISG is an opportunity to work in a team on a problem which, as well as being relevant to industry or business, often leads to a new collaboration or the development of a novel solution technique.
The Mathematics-in-Industry Study Group has an excellent record of problem-solving. The high-level skills and wide-ranging backgrounds of the participants means that the Group is able to bring a fresh approach to clarifying issues and formulating strategies for solutions. In some cases a full resolution of a problem is achieved during the workshop; and in others a method of solution is obtained with the details to be followed up by the industrial participant.
In the fourteen workshops held since 1984, the MISG has worked on 101 projects from 68 different industries and businesses covering car, railway, mining, metal processing, gas and oil, high technology, general manufacturing, food processing and service sectors.
