Banach Center Symposium on Ordered Sets

July 26 - August 8, 1999

Warsaw, Poland

Mathematics

Host: Stefan Banach International Mathematical Center
Sponsor: Order, the journal on theory of ordered sets and its applications
Homepage: http://www.impan.gov.pl/BC/99Order.html

Organizers: Aleksander Rutkowski, Zbigniew Lonc

Description:
We are aiming to show current trends and results in the theory of ordered sets and related topics which apply the notion of order. Special attention will be paid to combinatorics of ordered sets, lattice theory, application to algebra and computer science. Costs and deadlines for the participation and paper submission will be soon announced.

The additional aim of the conference is the expansion of the ordered sets community by attracting new young mathematicians. To achieve this, Ordered Sets (in particular the first week) will be a combination of a workshop and a summer school. Projected are 4 or 5 minicourses (4-6h) devoted to chosen branches of the theory of ordered sets and addressed to the beginners (postgraduate students, Ph.D. students). The preliminary list of such courses is:

Combinatorics of ordered sets Ordered sets from point of view of algebraic topology Fixed point theory for ordered sets Algebraic combinatorics Discrete geometry
