Description:
Solving problems in Discrete Mathematics requires familarity with a great variety of methods, ranging from Algebra to Complex and Functional Analysis. In the summer school we will present methods which are related to communication theory: association schemes, lattices, codes, and polynomials. We emphasize the known and emerging connections between these fields. As a special event, Siemens Verkehrstechnik invites to a practical demonstration of the application of codes in industry. The lectures will be for interested students at the Diploma Thesis or Doctorate level. It will be advantageous to have some background in one of the subjects mentioned in the title, and strong motivation to learn about the other subjects.

The number of participants is restricted to forty.

Speakers: E. Bannai (Kyushu University, Japan), A. Blokhuis (TU Eindhoven, The Netherlands), W. Ebeling (Universität Hannover, Germany), M. Tsfasman (IPPI Moscow, Russia)
