Description:
"Evolutionary Computing is ready for real world applications" will be the dominant theme of the third edition of this short course, that will focus on emerging numerical techniques coming
from the computer science and artificial intelligence world which are now having a relevant impact and implications in engineering.
Objectives of the course
To present a compendium of state of the art lectures about theoretical aspects, numerical implementation and practical results obtainable using Genetic Algorithms and Evolution Strategies for discrete, continuous and combinatorial optimisation problems To present the existing connection between evolution algorithms and other techniques like Fuzzy logic and Neural Networks To provide a bridge, with the rising impact of distributed parallel computers, between Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Computing looking at real life problems Targeted applications are Fluid Dynamics, Structure Mechanics, Electromagnetics, Automation Control, Resource Optimisation, Image Processing and Economics. Multi-disciplinary applications are featured, among others, in Engineering and Applied Sciences, where evolution works impressively well with computer programs.
