Description:
This conference will focus on the interactions between the theory of finitely generated groups and other areas of mathematics, such as 3-manifold theory, hyperbolic geometry, and rigidity of lattices in Lie groups. Topics will include:

splittings of groups, group actions on real trees, asymptotic geometry of groups, and automorphism groups of free groups.

The conference is planned to coincide with the 65th birthday of John Stallings, whose contributions to geometric group theory have been of fundamental importance.
