Organizers: Chitta Baral, Mirek Truszczynski
Deadline for abstracts: December 15, 1999
Description:
This is the 8th workshop in the NMR series. Its aim is to bring together active researchers in the broad area of nonmonotonic
reasoning, including belief revision, reasoning about actions, logic programming, causality, probabilistic and possibilistic
approaches to KR, and other related topics. Workshop activities will include invited talks, tutorials, presentations of technical
papers and poster sessions. As part of the program we will attempt to assess the status of the field after 20 years since its
inception and discuss issues such as:
a. significant recent achievements both in the theory of NMR and in the automation of NMR; b. critical short and long term problems to be solved; c. emerging new research directions; d. practical applications of NMR; d. significance of NMR for knowledge representation and, more generally, AI.
Several NMR systems have been recently implemented. They were demonstrated at meetings, workshops and conferences. We intend to have a system demonstration, too. In conjunction with this session, we are planning a discussion aimed at establishment of a family of benchmarks for nomonotonic reasoning systems and guidelines for system competitions along the lines of planning competitions or robot contests.
