Euro-Summer School on Mathematical Aspects of Evolving Interfaces

July 3-9, 2000

Funchal, Portugal

Mathematics

Host: University of Madeira
Sponsor: CIM (Centro Internacional de Matemática, Portugal) and CIME (Centro Internazionale Matematico Estivo, Italy)

Organizers: Pierluigi Colli (University of Pavia, Italy), José Francisco Rodrigues (University of Lisbon, Portugal)

Description:
Interfaces are geometrical objects modeling free or moving boundaries which arise in a wide range of phase change problems in continuum physics, in particular in material sciences. Recent mathematical advances in the theory of geometric evolution problems will be presented in a set of lectures with an interdisplinary perspective, covering several aspects from theory to applications. The publication of a lectures notes of the summer course is foreseen.

Speakers: Luigi Ambrosio (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy), Gerhard Dziuk (University of Freiburg, Germany), Masayasu Mimura (University of Hiroshima, Japan), Vsvolod A. Solonnikov (Steklov Math. Inst., St. Petersburg, Russia), Halil M. Soner (Princeton University, USA)
