Description:
Electronic systems and computer science have revolutionized many aspects of society and will continue to have a large impact. The second revolution that will shape our future comes from biology: life science is not only generating scientific knowledge at a growing pace, but will also more and more influence our lives directly, for instance by opening up new avenues for medicine.

Hence, it can be expected that the "coupling of biological and electronic systems" - one of the three main directions of research at caesar - will be a particularly fruitful scientific area in the future. In the recent past this interdisciplinary area has already had a large number of success stories, ranging from the cardiac pacemaker to modern bioinformatics.

The second caesarium will survey some of the most promising projects in the field, covering research on a broad spectrum of relevant topics from biomolecules up to sense organs.
