The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Natural and Humanistic Sciences and the Mathematical Physics Group of
the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste organize a workshop on Whitham equations
and their mathematical and physical applications. The workshop aims at fostering the interaction between
mathematicians and physicists dealing with various applications of nonlinear semiclassical approximations.
Topics: Whitham equations
in the theory of dispersive waves: variational principles and Hamiltonian formalism; and differential and algebraic geometry; in plasma physics; in fiber optics; in string theory.
