The comfort, reliability, efficiency, safety and costs associated with road transportation are profoundly influenced by
the interaction between pneumatic tyres and pavement surfaces. While there have been enormous advances in the
design and construction of these components in recent years, there is still much to investigate and analyse in both
describing the dynamic performance of such complex reinforced structures and in elucidating some of the fundamental
tribological mechanisms relevant to the contact between a highly visco-elastic material and a rigid counterface in both
dry and wet conditions.
This one-day seminar will review the current state of knowledge and provide a forum for the presentation of results from recent experimental work.
