Description:
The Department of Music, in association with the Royal Musical Association, will host an interdisciplinary conference on the theme of nationalism and identity during the Third Republic in France. Participation is sought from scholars working in music, French studies, history, literary studies, art history, politics and other relevant disciplines. The conference will explore the interface between musical and other creative practices and political systems. The conference organisers intend to publish an edited collection from selected papers.

The programme committee invites proposals for papers on any related topic, but contributions on the following topics are particularly encouraged:

Nationalism Regionalism Issues of identity Anti-Semitism Gender The power of the press

Individual papers should last no more than twenty minutes. Proposals for round table discussions or study sessions (up to ninety minutes long) are also welcome.
