Description:
We welcome you specially to the 13th World Congress to be inspired, we hope, by innovative ideas about applied linguistics and creative aspects of language teaching. We invite you to weave together two strands, the theoretical and the practical, in ways that spell transformation and artistry. In particular, what we hope to provide is a more interactive Congress drawing participation from scholars from across vastly different cultural settings, experimenting with and advocating new approaches, and sharing them with practitioners in the field. The fresh ideas about applied linguistics will be discussed and presented in a country where English, one of the four official languages in Singapore, is used as the working language. We hope that the discussions on these issues in Singapore in the year 2002 will point the way to better research opportunities and more creative ways of teaching and learning languages.
