Organizers: H.C Berg (Harvard, USA), R. Bruinsma (Leiden, The Netherlands)

Description:
This workshop will focus on the following kinds of questions:

What kinds of networks of interacting proteins exist in living cells ? How are they used in gene expression (e.g., for assembly of supramolecular structures, control of cellular rhythms, or utilization of available nutrients ) ? What role do they play in sensory transduction (e.g., in bacterial chemotaxis or mammalian olfaction) ? What role do such networks play in development (e.g., in establishing polarity of a fly's body plan) ? What design principles ensure that such networks have adequate gain, give stable outputs, work with varying numbers of different `components', or operate independently ?
