Description:
The conference invites papers which address recent changes of life courses - transitions, patterns, interdependencies between events, cohort and period changes - in various life phase and life domains under the perspective of their macrostructural and institutional linkages.

We also invite papers which focus on the changing contexts of life courses themselves, such as macroeconomic settings and changes in welfare policies, and their potential implications for life course outcomes.

Papers should combine as many of the following elements as possible, but at minimum three: a) life course outcomes b) changes across time c) cross-national comparisons d) macroeconomic and macrosocial contextual changes and e) changes in welfare state policies.

The conference will be organised around the following topics:

Changes in Macro Contexts; Changes in Life Course Patterns; Skill Formation, Employment and Careers; Unemployment and Exclusion; Unions, Families and Children; Welfare State Adaptations and Challenges.

Date received: April 29, 2001
