Workshop on Computational Biology

Numerical and Computational Challenges in Science and Engineering

November 29 - December 2, 2001

Toronto, ON, Canada

Mathematics

Host: Fields Institute

Description:
The progress of research in many areas of biology has accelerated through the use of scientific computation for the analysis, simulation and forecasting of complex biological systems. In many of these areas, cost and validity of the computations themselves has become a limiting factor on progress. Experience has shown that improvements in numerical algorithms are often more effective than massive expenditures on raw computing power. This workshop will bring together computational biologists and numerical analysts, to explore better numerical algorithms for problems in such areas as dynamical disease, epidemiology, neural networks, ecology, cell biology and physiological models.
