Description:
The purpose of Damage and Fracture Mechanics 2002 is to promote further international
cooperation amongst researchers and engineers from different disciplines involved in the study
and assessment of damage and fracture mechanics, with special emphasis on computer aided
assessment and control.
The overall strategy is to produce an integrated approach to the problem of fracture, fatigue and safe design with particular reference to advanced theories and novel computational approaches.
The conference will discuss papers on any of the topics listed in this brochure and others related to the theme of the meeting. The participants are encouraged to critically review existing ideas and to explore new areas of research topics for a wide range of applications, including static and dynamic loading, probabilistic as well as deterministic analysis and applications in design.
Previous international conferences on Damage and Fracture Mechanics were held at Portsmouth, UK (1990); Southampton, UK (1992); Udine, Italy (1994); Fukuoka, Japan (1996); Bologna, Italy (1998) and Montreal, Canada (2000). Following the success of these meetings, the seventh international conference is being organised by Wessex Institute of Technology on the Isle of Maui in Hawaii.
