COMPRAIL 2002 is the eighth international conference in this successful series on Computer Aided Design, Manufacture and Operation in the Railway and Other Advanced Mass Transit Systems.

The conference aims to update the use of computer-based techniques, promoting their general awareness throughout the business management, design, manufacture and operation of railways and other advanced passenger, freight and transit systems. The meeting provides a forum for planners, designers, manufacturers and operators, to discuss how they can benefit from the latest developments in this area of information technology.

The proceedings of all the COMPRAIL conferences have been published to the highest standards in hard cover, in time for the meeting, and are distributed throughout the world.

Previous meetings have been held in Frankfurt (1987), Rome (1990), Washington DC (1992), Madrid (1994), Berlin (1996), Lisbon (1998) and Bologna (2000).
