Description:
The Annual Conference of the International Association for Mathematical Geology, IAMG'2002, will focus on the interaction between
mathematical modeling of geo-processes and new developments in geo-informatics and computer science. Our main interest will be -
besides general topics in Mathematical Geology - the process of
creation, management, distribution, access, and exploitation
of digital spatial data.
The recent increase in using the internet and the world wide web have changed the communication between scientists, the access to data and modeling software and the publication of scientific results. Distributed computing over the internet and multiplatform WWW browsers allow anyone to run computer programs and to visualize results by platform-independent graphical user interfaces. IAMG has dedicated three journals and the annual conference proceedings to the dissemination of theoretical achievements and practical application tools in geology. We believe that it is necessary to have a closer look on the impact of modern computer science on Mathematical Geology and to initiate a broad discussion on specific needs and future developments.
