This follow-up to the successful international Summer School held in June 2000 will include attendance at the two-day conference on
'Forgetting' on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 July. Aimed at an international community of research students and scholars (principally but not
exclusively in the Romance Languages), the Summer School will allow participants to explore new avenues of interdisciplinary research across
national boundaries, and to build contacts with researchers from other countries and disciplines. Participants will have the opportunity to
present their own work in progress, and to engage in small-group discussion with invited speakers from the UK and overseas. A museum visit
and a film screening will be included.
The Summer School, together with the conference, is intended to develop the work on 'Forgetting', 'Place' and 'Mourning' pursued by the Cultural Memory Seminar at the Institute in 2000-2001. There will be opportunities for publication of work presented by speakers and participants.
