With the beginning of this year, the preparations for FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS VALENCIA 2000, an international functional analysis meeting on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Professor Manuel Valdivia, July 3-7, 2000 have reached the next stage. We thank you once more for your interest in our meeting, which is a joint venture of the Universitat de Valencia (UV) and the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (UPV); the meeting will take place at UPV. - We apologize for the delay: This letter should have been sent by the end of January, but due to various circumstances the preparations took us longer than anticipated. In addition to the plenary lectures of 50 minutes. there will be several special (necessarily parallel) sessions with talks of 25 minutes, and poster sessions. By now a number of speakers for the special sessions have been invited, but participants still have the opportunity to submit abstracts for talks or posters (see below). In fact, more than 100 abstracts have already been submitted. It is expected that the meeting will have more than 200 participants. Here is a LIST of the SPECIAL SESSIONS which we intend to have: Geometry and Structure of Banach spaces, Weak topologies in Banach spaces, renormings, Operator algebras, operator spaces, Operator theory, spectral theory, Banach algebras, Chaotic behavior of operators and universality, Non-linear functional analysis, Frechet spaces, with applications to complex analysis and (linear) partial differential operators, Function spaces and their duals, Topological vector spaces, duality theory, Holomorphy, polynomials (in infinite dimensions). This list may be modified from time to time. All interested participants are kindly asked to submit an abstract via Internet to the server of Atlas Mathematical Conference Abstracts, http://at.yorku.ca/cgi-bin/amca/submit/cado-01 (Later on, accepted abstracts in final form can be seen at the same address with `/submit' omitted.) THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS IS APRIL 15, 2000. The AMCA server will not accept any abstracts after April 15. Please indicate at the end of your abstract if you wish to give a lecture of 25 minutes (T) or to present a poster (P). We intend to schedule the program of the meeting, as much as possible, during the month of May 2000 so that the speakers will know by early June when their talks are scheduled. The plenary talks will take place in a large lecture hall equipped with two overhead projectors and facilities for the use of beamers. Therefore we ask the main speakers to please prepare transparencies and/or presentations of powerpoint type. The talks in the special sessions will take place in smaller lecture rooms equipped with blackboards and one overhead projector. There will be a REGISTRATION FEE of 15000 Pesetas (about 100 US dollars) in case of registration before May 10. This fee includes lunch on each of the five days of the conference, coffee and cookies in the breaks, and some other benefits. - After May 10, a `late registration fee' of 25000 Pesetas will apply. In special cases, participants from the former Soviet Union and from certain other countries will be allowed to pay on arrival in Valencia (and they would not be required to pay the `late registration fee'), but they must contact the organizers BEFORE MAY 10 to get permission to do so. The REGISTRATION FORM is included below as an ATTACHMENT. Please print it, read it carefully, fill it in (typing or in capital letters), arrange your payment and return it as soon as possible to the address indicated in the form. The registration form will be soon available at the homepage too. The CONFERENCE EXCURSION will take place on Wednesday afternoon, July 5, by bus, to the interesting old town of Xativa in the Comunidad Valenciana. Later the same evening, we will have the CONFERENCE DINNER. NEITHER the excursion NOR the dinner is included in the registration fee. The meeting will start on Monday, July 3 in the morning with an opening ceremony. Arrival day is Sunday, July 2. We plan to finish the meeting with a closing ceremony in the morning of Saturday, July 8. The recommended ACCOMMODATIONS are the Student Residences (Colegios Mayores). Most of them are very close to the Congress site. There are single and double rooms, with private bathroom. - Hotel rooms can be reserved, if requested.
