The Remembrance gathering (2) will take place Saturday 6:00-10:00 PM in the Ballroom of the Best Inn and Suites University Center. Gary Gruenhage and Phil Zenor are in the process of organizing the Miniconference. Dr. Taylor Littleton is providing some funds from the office of the "Littleton-Franklin Lectures Program" at Auburn University to partially defray some of the expenses of the speakers at the Miniconference. Miniconference speakers so far include Mike Reed, Judy Kennedy, A.V. Arhangel'skii, Tom Ingram, Bob Stephenson, Peter Nyikos, Bill Mahavier, Alan Dow, Hao Zhou, Bob Heath, Sam Young, and Mary Ellen Rudin. The Ben Fitzpatrick Remembrance will be a celebration of Ben's life. Auburn University people, Townspeople, out-of-town visitors, (actually anyone present who wishes to do so) will be invited to make remarks about Ben and the impact he had on the university and the town and our lives and will, no doubt, offer up some of their favorite stories about Ben. Among the scheduled speakers will be Ben's close friends Taylor Littleton, who was AU VP for Academic Affairs during Ben's tenure as Dept. Head, and Paul Parks, who was either Dean of the AU Graduate School or VP for Academic Affairs for most of the period Ben was on the faculty at Auburn. Needless to say, there will be many people from the AU Math Dept, mathematicians from other universities and industry, Townspeople, and friends from out of town who will give testimonials and tell some favorite stories. The ballroom has a large projection screen. We plan to have a slide projector, overhead projector, and hopefully a computer file projection apparatus available so speakers can show some of their favorite pictures. Food, beer, and soft drinks will be provided and the hotel will set up a cash bar for those who wish to use it. Mathematicians who plan to attend the Miniconference might wish to stay at the Heart of Auburn Inn and Suites [1-800-843-5634] which is only a short walk from the Mathematics Department and which is providing a group rate for Miniconference participants. You can contact Phil or Gary for additional information. Out-of-town visitors who only plan to attend the Ben Fitzpatrick Remembrance might wish to stay at the Best Inn and Suites University Center [1-800-Auburn3], which is providing a group rate for people who are coming to attend this gathering. This is the inn on South College, where it crosses University Drive, that was formerly the All American Inn and formerly the Best Western Inn.
